Bluebonnet Belle is a C-47 Skytrain (civilian designation DC-3. Unofficially called a gooney bird). She was built in 1944 to fly "the hump" over the Himalayan mountains during WWII. It is unknown if she ever actually flew the hump before the war ended. As the story was told to me, "the records got a little murky after she arrived in England."

She is now flown by the Highland Lakes Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force in Burnet, Texas.

Here she is being serviced.

The official website for her is here: [link]

HDR from 3 exposures.

The people you're after are the people you depend on. We cook your meals, we haul your trash, we connect your calls, we drive your ambulances. We guard you while you sleep. Do not screw with us.

I have a mental image of a horde of volunteers swarming her with jars of Gord's aluminum (aluminium for you global types) polish and a huge pile of shop rags.
:iconziblink:
Freakin' sleek!

Thats the problem with the world today; intelligence is constant, and the populations increasing.

Very expensive to keep flying. They are about ready to pull the engines for some sort of overhaul(I was told what kind, but I forgot. They'll keep people away from where they do that to keep expensive engine parts and unique tools from walking off.

Normally (when she isn't receiving expensive overhauls) she earns her upkeep flying paying warbird enthusiasts.

Damn, birdwatching is extreme over there huh?

Aaah ;spare' parts; it's how I've made a killing in the lead industry.
