Kaboom Town Time

Thu Jul 3, 2008, 9:54 PM
July third is when Addison, Texas, holds their Kaboom Town celebration. It really packs the people in as it has been rated one of the best fireworks displays in the USA. It is on the third so that families can go to their own town's fireworks on the fourth, because that's the sort of considerate town Addison is.

I'll have fireworks shots tomorrow or so, including fireworks shot out of a Stearman biplane! That was something I'd never seen done before.

I have a few shots of some warbirds from the Cavanaugh Flight Museum that fly around before the fireworks. But since they are part of the evening's entertainment, the light is too dim by the time they bring out the B-24, C-47, P-51 Mustangs, and more. So I only have shots of the first few birds they trotted out.

I was a bit confused by the day-before date, but it really is considerate, isn't it? I know my family made pouty faces when I chose to go to a park festival with friends one year instead of the usual safe-and-sanes on the street.
ohhh... my sister was flying into the city while our fireworks were going off. I'll keep my eyes on yoru gallery!!

For some reason, the news here has been reporting that our city spends more money on fireworks than Chicago does. Our city's population: ~152,000
Chicago's population: ~2,900,000

I am going to go watch those fireworks and ENJOY IT because if they're exploding my money, I want at least to see it.
Addison's (Texas, not Illinois or PA) population is under 20,000. Of course, the number of people within the town limits during work hours exceeds 100,000. We have 180 restaurants and 22 hotels. I haven't pursued the fireworks budget, but I imagine it must be impressive to have the WSJ and others note our display as one of the Nation's best.
I hope I don't forget.
Yes, well... turns out most of the fireworks shots were a bit disappointing. Although the plane of flaming bombs has a certain manic appeal.
Addison also has some of the office towers open their parking garages for free parking. And they cover the toll for those using the tunnel that goes under the airport.
awwww

plane of flaming bombs!??!?
